Disinfection of scarves and masks
Practical and tested procedures for washing, disinfecting and sterilising agtive® multifunctional scarves and drapes
Nanoparticles - silver ions contained directly in the fibres of the polypropylene/polyester knit provide permanent protection against bacteria. In the case of SILUET and SPORT, these are zinc pyrithione nanoparticles/ions.
This antibacterial protection is not reduced or diminished by repeated washing. It is important to use detergents with no or minimal perfuming. In order to preserve all the properties of the scarf, no fabric softener should be used in its maintenance.
After using an antibacterial scarf or drape to protect the physical transmission of bacterial cultures, mycobacteria, viruses and spores, the product can be cleaned and disinfected (sterilized) by one of the following methods:
- washing at 60° (we tested the resistance of the nanoagent material by washing at 90° with no signs of negative changes)
- microwave for 1-2 minutes max. performance (wet product)
- microwave for 3-5 minutes max. performance (dry product)
- ironing - 1. grade = one dot (70°C - 120°C): polypropylene, polypropylene+polyester
- ironing - 2. grade = two dots (100°C - 160°C): polyester (+ elastane)
- boiling (we boiled the 100% polypropylene scarf for 2 minutes without any signs of damage)
- use of alcohol above 70% (scarves were for 1 min. immersed in 100% technical alcohol with no signs of damage)
- SAVO - (scarves were for 1 min. immersed in undiluted Savo without signs of damage)
- uV lamp application (not tested)
- use of an ozone generator (not tested)
All of the above procedures have been practically tested by us on all material variants of agtive® multifunctional scarves and drapes, and although some of the above methods exceed the recommended values for handling nanoAgent materials (e.g. washing at 40°C, no ironing), we have verified by practical testing that after their application the product remains without signs of damage and with minimal effect on the dimensions of the product.
We recommend that these procedures be applied to products only when used in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic. A product damaged by the above maintenance procedures is not covered by the warranty.
