Irish moss (Chondrus crispus) is a species of red marine algae that grows in the reef areas of the Atlantic coast of Ireland and in parts of the Pacific Ocean.It got its name from the place where it occurs most often, namely in the seas around Ireland. There is also a tradition of its use in folk medicine. It is characterized by a high content of substances (carrageenans) which, after soaking in water, form a gel. Carrageenans (carrageenans) form large molecules that bind water. Currently, Irish moss is popular in the field of healthy nutrition and is also included in some weight-loss products. Irish moss, with its content of minerals and vitamins, is a natural alternative to synthetic multivitamins.
