Chlorella, a green freshwater algae originating from Asia, is among the unicellular organisms. This group has been known since 1890, when it was described by microbiologist M. W. Beijerinck. It is interesting that organisms known as Acritarchs (indistinguishable from Chlorella) lived on our Earth as early as 1.5 billion years ago. The name chlorella is derived from the Latin words chloros - green and ella - small, therefore chlorella supports natural immunity.
